Inspirational Color with Sophie MacCorquedale

CLASS DESCRIPTION

WHO - Hairdressers with expert technical ability who are looking to be inspired and develop their own collections and editorial portfolios.

WHAT - This class will focus on where to draw inspiration from and how to adapt that into your hairdressing.  It will encourage participants to look beyond hairdressing magazines and instagram for creative ideas.  The importance of nature, art/architecture and fashion in influencing color, coloring techniques and trends will be explored.   Participants will be given the opportunity to develop their own ideas with the technical and creative support from Sophie and the professional by Fama support team .

This three hour class will incorporate lecture, demo, and work session.

The lectures and demonstrations will be on the three key themes, nature, art/architecture and fashion. It will look at how these themes can be used to draw inspiration from, how this has been achieved in hair fashion over the past twenty years and how we can do that today.  

The work session will provide the opportunity for participants to adapt key themes discussed and demonstrated in the morning on their own models.   There will be focus on thinking creatively and developing colour formulations, sectioning patterns and techniques.

WHAT WILL I LEARN - This class is designed to encourage participants to think about hair color, sectioning patterns and techniques in a refreshing and creative way.  It will start to provide the tools and skills to draw inspiration from a diverse range of influences and incorporate that into their hairdressing.  This can be used as a starting point to create a collection or add a fresh approach to how they think about color. 

Sophie will be on hand throughout the course to mentor participants in how to take influences and adapt them to hair.  Technical support will be given, so participants can develop their use of foil, free hand techniques and formulations.  It will also enable participants to actively understand about placement and color combinations, so they have a stronger understanding of why they are applying the color in that way and the result they will achieve.

WHY - After over twenty years in the hair industry and fifteen years teaching the most frequent question Sophie is asked is “where do you get your inspiration from.”  This gave her the idea to show people where her inspiration is drawn from in a comprehensive class

Sophie is also a fine art graduate from Goldsmiths College London and her artwork has been exhibited globally.  Therefore she has a strong understanding of how to process and develop creative concepts and ideas.  She wants to share that with the hair industry and educate hairdressers how to develop their own creative ideas and influences.  This will enable them to have the freedom to develop their own collections and find inspiration from different sources.

ABOUT SOPHIE

Sophie MacCorquodale is a freelance hair colorist and educator with over twenty years experience. For the past six years she has been working independently and with established teams and brands on shows, seminars and developing collections. This role has enabled her to travel throughout Asia, America, Russia and Europe inspiring and educating hairdressers at every stage of their career. From one-to-one tuition, group seminars to shows with thousands she strives to make hairdressing education as accessible and engaging as possible.

She is a Fine Art Graduate from Goldsmiths College London, where she specialized in moving image and conceptual Art.
Having experience in hair and photography/video, she naturally gravitates to all aspects of editorial work and photo/video shoots. She has recently created directional color work for Gucci, Kenzo and Aries and directed, filmed and edited promo videos for Saco Hair, Stella McCartney and Show Studio.com.

Over the past three seasons, Sophie has worked with a leading session team on shows at New York, Milan and Paris Fashion Week. This has given her a great insight into current trends and provided the opportunity to work with leading Fashion Houses, Designers, Hair stylists and Make Up Artists.

Her recent career highlight was coloring Bjork’s hair and creating a series of wigs and head-pieces for her Cornucopia Tour with lead hair stylist John Vial.
